To the Holy Father at the Mass for Peace and Reconciliation

(18 August 2014, Seoul, Myeongdong Cathedral)

Your Holiness, 

I thank you sincerely for visiting our country, divided into North and South, and for praying for the peace on the Korean Peninsula at this Mass for Peace and Reconciliation.

Today is the last day of your apostolic visit to Korea. Soon after this Mass, you will return to the Holy See. 

I have been very happy to accompany you for the last five days. Since your arrival in Korea, you have met with so many people from all sorts of backgrounds and celebrated many Masses. On every occasion, you showed us a better image of the Church and a pastor. In particular, you showed the Asian youth the image of a good shepherd who accompanies them and walks along with them. 

In Seoul, you celebrated the Mass for the beatification of our martyrs, Paul Yun Ji-Chung and his 123 companions. Now, the Catholic Church in Korea has new 124 Blessed martyrs in addition to 103 saints. When we remember them, we cannot but feel great responsibility for the evangelization. 

Your Holiness, I would like to ask you to pray for the peace on the Korean Peninsula and for the peace of the world. Owing to your prayer, we will pray and do our best with all our heart and strength for the peace and reconciliation of our society as well as the whole world. 

Your Holiness, as you love us and our country, so we love you too. 

I would like to thank you again and wish you a very safe return!

della Messa per la Pace e la Riconciliazione (18 agosto 2014)

Santo Padre,

Volevo ringraziarLa di cuore per aver visitato il nostro paese diviso in due, sud e nord e per aver pregato per la sua pace celebrando l'Eucaristia. Oggi è l'ultimo giorno della sua visita in Corea. Subito dopo essere finita questa Messa tornerà alla sua sede.

Sono molto felice di averLa accompagnata in questi cinque giorni. Fin dal suo arrivo ha tenuto diversi incontri e celebrazioni eucaristiche. In ciascun momento ha mostrato l'aspetto migliore della Chiesa. Per i giovani asiatici, in particolare, si è mostrato un Buon Pastore che li accompagna e cammina accanto a loro.

A Seul ha proclamato beati i nostri martiri primitivi, Paolo Yun Ji-Chung e centoventitré suoi compagni.  Con ciò la Chiesa coreana ha centoventiquattro nuovi beati oltre ai centotré santi. Sento quindi su di me una più grave responsabilità per l'evangelizzazione.

Santo Padre,

Le chiedo di pregare per noi, affinché ci impegniamo per realizzare la piena pace nella nostra penisola e nel mondo.

Come Lei ama noi e il nostro paese, noi l'amiamo.
